Since the inception of the CTO Academy approximately 18 months ago, Northern Rivers Community Transport service provider Connect You Too (CU2) has embraced the platform to support its volunteers, paid drivers, admin staff, and board members.
The Academy has provided CU2 with a flexible, centralised platform for managing online training across a diverse workforce.
CU2 Corporate Services Manager Desley Tyler reflected on how the Academy has helped meet a broad mix of induction, compliance, and professional development needs:

How does CU2 use the CTO Academy?
  • Volunteer Onboarding: “All volunteers complete the online orientation training which has proven effective in setting clear expectations and giving them a confident start in their roles.”
  • Essentials Bundle for Paid Drivers: “Feedback from the drivers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many noting that it provides a comprehensive overview of what is expected of community transport drivers.”
  • Cultural Competency for Board & Staff: “The timing was perfect as it aligned with the development of our RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan), providing everyone with valuable context and understanding of its purpose and scope.”
  • Governance Course Bundle: “Board members have completed the Governance Course Bundle and have recently been re-enrolled in the relevant suite of courses.”

Feedback on the Platform?

Desley, who oversees course purchasing, enrolments, and tracking completions, had this to say about the Academy experience:

“The system allows me to enrol [staff] and monitor their progress easily.” “Staff members are proactively engaging with the free courses offered throughout the year. If I believe a module will benefit someone, I ask them to enrol in it.”

“I find the courses very useful. They are all easy to understand and provide valuable content.”

Desley also highlighted how useful the Academy had been in streamlining compliance. “One of the things I appreciate most is the pricing and the convenience of having all compliance-related courses in one place.
The structure  and accessibility of the courses make them all effective for our team.”

While Desley notes that the admin system had a learning curve she has found support readily available when needed.  “I’ve reached out for assistance regarding issues I encountered with re-enrolment, and I appreciate the support I’ve received,” she said.

What’s on the Wishlist?

Desley has identified a few course areas that could further enhance the offering for her team:

  • Understanding CHSP & Strengthened Aged Care Standards
  • Driver Fatigue Awareness
  • Basic Dementia Training
  • First Aid Refresher Modules

Key Takeaways for CTO Members?

For other CTO members considering the platform, CU2’s experience shows how it can support:

  • Scalable onboarding and induction
  • Easy access to compliance training
  • Ongoing skills development for staff and volunteers
  • On-demand 24/7 access which is self-paced for each individual learner

“The CTO Academy is a great resource for our board, staff and volunteers. It offers a convenient, centralised platform for managing training and compliance, and the courses are easy to navigate.” - Desley Tyler
